What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

I just had my blood pressure taken today in the Drs office. Reading was 138/82. I am a 64 yr old female, 5 8 and 155lbs. I am very active and have lots of energy. Eat lots of fruit and veg and very little red meat. Moderate alcohol intake...1 or 2 glasses of wine a week. Only 2 years ago my BP was still low 117/70... My father took medication and now my 68 yr old sister does as well. I think it s too high and it worries me. Am I borderline for being flagged ? Thanks G.

New guidelienes say that BP OF more than 140/ 90 is worrisome. Your blood pressure is within normal limits so relax. But at age 64 yeras please keep habit of checking BP regularly. Moreover, with age, our blood vessels loose elasticity, become stiff so our BP may increase with age.
