What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

hi I was put on a pill for high blood pressure 4 months ago but I was very stressed and it was high. I normally have low blood pressure. I was in jail so they made me take it. I resently well last year I was diagnosd with a anurism on my arorta heart. well I went to a new doctor from Mayo Clinic. I also took my self off the bp medication and my bp went back to normal. the new doctor said I should take bp medicine because of the valve. he thinks my blood pressure might be going up and down. I dont agree cause he just met me. I have never ever had high bp. what should i do take it or not

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Aneurysms require the blood pressure to remain below 120-125 mmHg as higher blood pressures may increase the rupture risk. So a "normal" blood pressure is not enough and I suppose that this is what these doctors had in mind when they suggested you to continue the medication. A 24 h Holter study will help to clear up this issue, as it may identify high, low or normal blood pressures throughout the day (and night) and will definitely help your doctor to assess your risk.

If you've had symptoms with your current regimen then perhaps another drug can be tried. It's always better if you let your doctor take those decisions. You should make sure that your doctor knows everything about any side effects you might have experienced and the reason for your concerns. Some side effects can be dealt with, if you let your doctor know about them!

I hope you find my comments helpful! Kind Regards!
