What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure While On Aleve PM?

Hello, I am currently taking 2 Aleve PM tablets every night for nerve pain down the legs. Unfortunately, the nerve pain returns around 4:00 AM. Yesterday I found out my blood pressure is 147 over 97. I need to get the blood pressure down. If I stop taking Aleve PM can you recommend another product that won t raise my blood pressure? I moved 2 years ago and still do not have a physician. Thank you, Carol

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Unfortunately, anti-inflammatories such as Aleve or Ibuprofen can increase your blood pressure, as you have experienced yourself.

Over the counter, the only other option would be acetaminophen, which would not be as effective as the anti-inflammatories.

For prescription medication, Gabapentin or Lyrica is sometimes effective for nerve pain. If most of your pain is localized to a small area, capsaicin cream has also been shown to help with nerve pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
