Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom has been a very healthy women only ever taken vitamins..she is 78 and last week her bp put her in the ER 3 times ..they have done every test ..she is taking meds 2times a day but her bp keeps jumping up to 189/80 tonight she has already taken her clonidine 3 times and it goes down for a few hours then right back up again..I m very worried and afraid to leave her ..doctors don t seem worried
I hope in the ER They have done all the necessary tests like renal function tests, looked for features of retinopathy, chest X-rays and other basic investigations as there is a persistent rise in bp we cannot exclude the possibility of accelerated hypertension.
Also, this might be a case of what we call medically refractory hypertension where resistance might have occurred to therapy...kindly look into these matters when you plan to visit the doctor.
Also you have to look for renal artery stenosis(could do a renal artery Doppler) and pheochromocytoma (in which accelerated hypertension are seen).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr ASIF, General & Family Physician
