What Causes Elevation In GGT And ALT Levels While On Norco For Chronic Pain?
Hello.I have chronic pain issues. I take narco 7.5/325 , soma 150mg,tramadol 50mg. For 3/4 months now I have a headache / pressure in my forehead. Was first told it was mastoiditis because of a CT scan. No clinical symptoms of mastoiditis. 2 MRI w IAC & contrast mastoid disease otherwise negative. MRI V negative scan. I had a Tia in May HA started around that time. Currently doing TIA work up .Recent blood work GGT was over 500 ALT was high too. I do drink wine 3-4 glasses per night. I do smoke. Working in quitting both. Could the head pressure be from the high GGT?? I have it 24/7 may decrease in intensity but, always there.I have been on pain melds 4 yrs. now. I take as prescribed any where from 4-5 narco a day 4-6 tramodol/day,3-4 soma/ day. During the first 2 mo this started I was on augmentin 125mg.Did like 3 rounds of antibiotics at that time. I do have high BP but it is well controlled . For that in am I take cardizem pm I take atenolol . I am currently seeing a neurologist for work up of TIA. Nobody thinks the TIA is causing the HA s . So could it be the GGT??
The increase in the levels of Gamma, Glutaryl Transferase with Alaline amino transferase indicate side effect of Narco analgesic consumed for a very long period of time. The main target of hepatically metabolised drug over a period of time consumption is liver and hence is the cause of raised levels of mentioned enzymes in your body serum.
Now, apart from discontinuation of both of the analgesic, it requires intensive management of liver therapy to revert back possible liver function at its best over a period of time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
