I am a 21 year old female with generally good health. I quit smoking in 2012 and don t drink. I am currently finishing my vaccines needed before I begin nursing clinical rotations in January. I had a depo vera shot with this yrs flu vaccine about 3 weeks ago and my first round of my ppd test (neg) 2 wks ago. This past Monday I had an MMR and a HEP B shot in my left arm and my second ppd test (neg) in my right arm. I remember speaking to the male nurse like normal when the room spun and I felt really dizzy and really limp, he thought I was nauseous and got me a trashcan and I couldn t even hold my body over it and told him something was very wrong. next thing I know I lost consciousness and was in a realm of conscious but not conscious (couldn t move, couldn t open my eyes, could not respond) when I heard two men shouting that I was going into shock, I saw flashing lights as someone picked me up and ran me into the acute care portion of the clinic. All I remember being able to focus on was my rapid breathing. I started to come to (open my eyes) but still couldn t respond well, when I was in the new room and hooked up to an ekg and put on oxygen. I could not keep my eyes still, my body was paralyzed but jerking pretty violently and I clearly remember a pins and needles sensation all over my body, but in my left arm in particular, because the right arm began to seize up and cramp up completely in the most unnatural way I felt like it was extremely painful, like something could break, but couldn t tell at the same time......and I could not flatten out my legs. It seized up so bad as I was gaining more consciousness and my upper body would pull up and towards that arm. Before all of this they said my heart rate had spiked, I do not remember to what bpm, but my oxygen stayed at around 100 and my other vitals seemed normal. (they gave me oxygen to just help calm me down and loosen those muscles they said?) Either way they whole thing lasted maybe 10-15 minutes and subsided to shivering, they asked if I was cold, At first I was not, in fact at first I felt sweaty. Eventually, the cold sat in and my body felt extremely exhausted and the paralysis faded. All I wanted to do was sleep. Because it was at a military doctors facility they basically made sure I was stable and then released me. I felt fine just exhausted and my spine and ribs and chest felt sore. The next day I woke up to some pretty bad neck pain. I thought I had slept wrong. but it got so bad over the day that even when I wasn t moving it something would feel pinched and send a shooting sensation up into my head and make my knees go weak, so I scheduled a follow up appointment with my PCM that very day, I didn t make it to my car from my school building before I felt it get worse and lowered myself to the ground, I called a friend to drive me to my appointment and immediately the spasm began had me laying down jerking for a few minutes, once again I felt like I was in a trance, watching this happen to me, but I did not have the same pins and needles feeling or cramping i had the day before. Someone found me close to the end of the episode as the jerking turned into shivering but i could not move and felt so weak. They called 911 and by the time i got to the hospital my neck being hurt and sore, were my only symptoms, and my vitals were normal again. they gave me valium for a few days and referred me to a neurologist. The valium does absolutely nothing. My neck doesn t feel stuck anymore but it sure hurts all the way down into my spine and gets worse everyday, if i bend a certain way my spine feels really icy. the exhaustion kicks in quicker everyday and i feel so sleepy like i didn t get any sleep when I could have had 9 hours the night before since my first episode. My PCM is confused as to what it is and why but wants to check for seizures. Mind you I have never had any symptoms of this that I know of prior to Monday s vaccines and have never had a reaction to a vaccine in the past. I would like to get other opinions on what this could be and what to remind my PCM and neurologist to test for, so that they do not miss anything. I shouldn t have to but this clinic needs constant reminding and are also the ones who put that my paternal grandFATHER had an abnormal pap smear on my medical records.......... unfortunately though with Tricare this is what I have available to me, but need advice on what to make sure they don t miss.
