General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
It is normal for your periods to be very irregular for up to six months after starting depo provera. At some point you just stop having periods. The change in hormones can result in vaginal dryness and if this is the case try using extra lubricant. If it is not a lubrication problem causing the pain then see your doctor for a pelvic exam to determine the cause. If it is not from dryness then it is probably not being caused by the depo and you need to determine the cause before you can treat it.
