Hi,
1. The infant cannot tell what is wrong. It only cries, so one has to examine carefully from head to toe.
2. The most common cause is intestinal
colic due to hunger, worms, and constipation:
. feed the baby, hold the baby in upright position, tap on the back for burping. Give soap stick to empty the bowels.
. Gripe water: 1 tsp thrice daily.
. spasmindon drops: 5-10 drops thrice daily.
3. What to look out for: [preferably by a GP or Pediatrician]
. look for bulging fontanelle & neck
stiffness to exclude
meningitis.
. inspect both eardrums carefully with a good torch, especially if the child is pulling at a ear repeatedly.
. examine the abdomen carefully, for lump, distension, visible
peristalsis for tenderness.
. examine and palpate all the limbs, chest and back for signs of
injury or swelling.
. look at the genitalia for any infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
