What Causes Excessive Phlegm While Suffering From Acid Reflux?
I have had thick saliva for over a year. I have a hyetal hernia and gerd. I do have heart burn and I am on medication. The medication doesn’t help the acid reflux. Is this causing the thick saliva? It is constant and quite aggravating. My tongue gets sore especially at night. I have very dry mouth at night but I still have this thick mucous in my mouth. I constantly roll my the sticky stuff around. It is hard to swallow it. It feels like it is developing in the front of my mouth, although I do have a constant drainage in the back of my throat. Is Gerd going up into sinuses and causing the discharge. No thrush is present.

What Causes Excessive Phlegm While Suffering From Acid Reflux?
Hello, You have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Acid reflux from stomach up to oesophagus and pharynx is responsible for excessive salivation and cough. You have to complete 2 weeks course of medication. Take capsule omeprazole 12 hourly, 1 hour before meal. Avoid spicy and oily food. Avoid lying or sleeping immediately after meal. Have walk of 30-45 minutes after eating food. If possible consult surgeon and get test done for H. Pylori infection in stomach. As it is common reason for acidity and ulcer disease of stomach. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
