What Causes Excessive Weight Gain And Shortness Of Breath?

Recently I gained about 5 pounds and I ve noticed shortness of breath when I walk just a short distance - like from the parking lot into a store. I am considerably overweight anyway, and thought maybe the extra pounds caused the problem. I thought I remembered that one of the signs of cardiac problems was shortness of breath and wondered if I should be concerned. I am also asthmatic.
