Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 13 years old, he s 5 7 and weighs 257 lbs. he has gained 17 lbs since December and I am getting concerned that there may be a underlying issue his pediatrician isn t looking for. He s taking Metformin because his A1-C was 5.7 and was put on it as a precautionary measure since he is considered borderline diabetic. He s not eating much differently than he normally does, no cookies, chips and very little soda. We eat fairly healthy but he still continues to gain weight. Do you have any suggestions that I can try to help him?
Hi. I have gone through your query.I suggest that you get a Thyroid Function Test T3,T4,TSH done.Irregularities in the thyroid do lead to excessive weight gain.
