What Causes Extreme Fatigue And Hair Loss?

I have suffered from dysphagia related to eosinophilic esophagitis for years but have recently been experiencing extreme fatigue regardless of the sleep I get and also hair loss. My mother had surgery to remove thyroid nodules when she was my age and I'm wondering if this could all be related.

Hello,
Thank you for asking on HCM!
Your concern regarding a genetical transmitted thyroid disease is right, in general the thyroid pathologies are genetically transmitted.
In your case, your symptoms suggest for an underproduction of the thyroid hormones and your mother is diagnosed with nodule at the thyroid gland. These are two different pathologies.
To confirm the diagnosis of hypothyroidism you need to check the thyroid hormones: TSH, FT4, FT3.
To rule out a thyroid nodule, the pathology that your mother may have transmitted to you, you need to do also an ultrasound of the thyroid gland.
Hope the information is somewhat useful.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
