Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Extreme Fatigue While Having Low Vitamin D Levels And Positive ANA?
I have a very low Vitamin D level, last checked it was at 6. Last year it was 8. I also have a positive ANA with a speckled pattern and the level was 1.81. I have an elevated SED Rate that has gone up every year. I am constantly tired, I even wake up tired. What tests would you recommend to try and determine why I am so tired? My CBC and Ferritin levels were normal. I am also in almost constant, but bearable achy pain. Thank you...
Elevated sed rate suggests a chronic inflammatory condition of some sort, and the ANA suggests a rheumatological disease such as lupus. Fatigue and achy pain are common symptoms occurring with these conditions. You need further evaluation to identify this. There are a number of specialized antibody tests available to see if you have a rheumatological (also called collagen-vascular) disease. It might be best to see a rheumatologist and get their advice. They can do an exam and see if you have any findings consistent with one of these conditions, then select the appropriate tests to make a definite diagnosis. Low vitamin D can cause fatigue but not generally the abnormal sed rate and ANA. Hope this helps.
