Hello: I am a 57 y.o. black female and for the past month my lips have been feeling like they were burned are extremely chapped. I have ben applying Neosporin and coconut oil, but they have not returned to normal. Please advise what the problem might be. The weather in So. Calif has been very extreme. One day it is hot and the next day it is raining. Please help me.
Excessively chapped lips can give them a burnt feeling. The lips can get chapped due to causes like excessive exposure to hot or cold air, nutritional deficiency, dry mouth and dehydration, fungal infection, lip biting or lip sucking habit, mouth breathing etc.. As of now start applying thick coat of Petroleum jelly or bees wax containing lip balm over your lips. Start applying cold packs over the lips to soothe them and improve blood flow. You can scrub your lips gently with a face scrub to remove dead skin layer, but be cautious to be gentle. You should avoid lip biting or lip licking as it further removes moisture from lips.. Drink plenty of water.. You can also always cover your lips when going into hot or cold weather or coming in contact with dry and cold air..
If does not improve in a week then consult a Physician and get checked for infections.
Hope this helps..
Regards..
