Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m seeing a horizontal lighting type consistent flash in my left eye...best described as an uneven triangular colidiscope that turns from right to let as well as towards the bottom of my eye (still left) I m seeing what looks like a black and grey octogon shaped ceiling fan spinning.....I don t drink or do drugs no head injuries or insect bites that I know of
Floaters in the eye generally do occur as an aging process in people above the age of 50 years. Other common causes include eye trauma or post cataract surgery in the single eye. As you mentioned that its in the single eye and that too no head injuries or so I rule out trauma.
Moving further, do you have any health ailments like diabetes or hypertension which also cause floaters in the eye. Senile cataract which generally occurs as an ageing process in the elderly people can also present as floaters and to be more specific I must say its colored halos with which it presents.
In this case a slit lamp examination would help. Its better to go through the eye examination to rule out if any cause is there. Investigations include ophthalmoscopies and slit lamp examinations. If nothing and everything else is normal then you need not worry as it may sometimes occur due to excessive eye strain too. But get the investigations done and we will proceed further.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Athar
