Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fatigue Along With Muscle Aches And Sore Throat?
I am 51 years old female. I teach high school, I am taking classes for myself, have a family and two kids with special needs. I am extremely tired and fatigued - muscle aches, and sore throat and swollen glands - achy ears. Is it possible that I have mono? I am just dragging and so so tired. I realize I am busy but this is beyond being just busy and tired.
Mono usually occurs in younger patients, but it's not unlikely that you can get it if you've been passionately kissing someone who does have it (you need to swap a reasonable amount of saliva to contract the virus causing the condition).
It does however sound like you do have a viral infection, such as the flu, as this would be the most common cause of your symptoms. Flus are managed symptomatically by using medication to manage your symptoms. This includes a honey-based syrup for any coughing, ibuprofen and acetaminophen for the aches and pains, and local anesthetic lozenges or spray for the throat. Bed rest, drinking plenty of water and chicken soup are also all indicated.
If you haven't started improving after 5 days, then I would suggest consulting with your doctor so that you can be investigated further.
