What Causes Fever And Sore Throat In A Child?

I have an 8 yo son with a fever, headache and slight sore throat. i took him to emergency and they swabbed his throat at 930 this morning. No strep found. His temp as staying at 100.04 or less. I have been alternating motin and tylenol every 3 hours and his temp keeps increasing never going down. It is currently 102.8. Should I take him back to emergency

Hi,

If he is otherwise active and playful, we need not worry. This might be a viral pharyngitis. It will come down after 48-72 hours. Till then, give him tylenol every 6 hours(maximum 4 times a day).

If temperature is not coming down in 1 hour of tylenol, you can give ibuprofen also, maximum 3 times a day. Take him back, if fever is not coming down after 72 hours. Give plenty of fluids and a soft diet. Warm saline gargles also is good.
