What Causes Fever Blisters On Tongue, Inside Mouth And Whitish Gums?

My one year old has a fever blister looking sore on his mouth. Also, two blisters on his tongue. His gums are now white-ish. When I brushed them the white went away, but they bled quite a bit. His cousin just got over a case of Herpangina. I'm assuming this is the same thing. Should I be worried about the gums though?
