What Causes Fever Despite Giving Ibuprofen After A Tooth Extraction?
Hello,My 8 year old daughter recently had a mildly infected tooth extracted and within 15 hours she developed a fever of 103. She has been responding well to ibuprofen, which brings her fever down within 90 minutes. It has been hovering between 98.6 and 99.1 after the full effect of the ibuprofen occurs. Her tooth extraction took place about 60 hours ago and her fever has not subsided without the help of ibuprofen. I'm getting anxious about this, and I'm just about ready to take her to the emergency room. Do you have any advice? Should I be overly concerned at this point? Any information would be most appreciated.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that your daughter is suffering from progression of infection from the site of extraction to the blood stream and as the body's self defense tries to wall of the infection there is a rise in body temperature.. As it is third day and still the infection has nt resolved you need to consult a General Physician or her treating dentist and get evaluated and he can advise a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, fever reducer Acetaminophen along with continuing Ibuprofen.. You can also do cool compresses over the forehead and body extremities as it will help in reducing fever..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
