What Causes Fever, Swollen Tongue And Blood In Mouth?

My husband has been suffering with tons of conjestion and a hoarse voice. Today he had a friend drive him home from work early, He had a fever, could hardly stand, his lips and mouth were blood blistered, his tounge was swollen, and mouth full of blood. Do you know what could have caused this?

Hi..
Thanks for writing to us..

It looks like you husband is having a severe viral infection leading to symptoms of flu along with blisters in and around the mouth..
Bleeding is due to inflammation of the mucosal surfaces along with blisters..
Swelling of tongue is also due to infection..
You should immediately take him to an Emergency room and get blood drown to rule out for the exact cause of infection..
He will be advised a combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen to reduce fever and inflammation.
A course of antiviral medication will also be advised.
To reduce pain caused due to blisters ointments or gels containing Lidocaine or Choline Salicylate has to be applied.
Doing warm saline gargles with sooth the mucosal surfaces and also relieve the pain and discomfort.
In case if the swelling and inflammation is severe a steroid shot cam be given for faster relief..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
