What Causes Fever With History Of UTI?

My son has a fever. Developed today at 3pm (102) so I gave him Tylenol. I gave him Advil at 6:30 as it went up to 103. he has no appetite. He is snacking lightly but concerned about the fever. He just got over a cold and associated urinary tract infection a few weeks ago. Should I assume he has another virus? when should I take him in if the fever increases?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

From the description provided by you, I feel that your son might be suffering with viral fever as you don't describe any urinary symptoms. Usually the viral fever resolves on its own by 4 - 7 days. If the temperature is too high and is not being controlled by oral anti pyretics and cold sponge, you can use a Paracetamol suppository. He might require hospitalisation if he doesn't eat and is being dehydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. If any further questions, will be happy to help you.
