What Causes Fibroadenoma In The Breast With Painful Shoulders?

Hi I am 19 years old. I have a lump in my breast which is 5cm large and was diagnosed as a fibroadenoma by at least 6 doctors including a breast specialist on examination. The doctor doing an ultrasound says it also looks like a fibroadenoma. Recently there has been a slight swelling by my supraclavicular node area. And I have a sore throat. My shoulder gets painful at night and I have a runny nose. I m afraid I might have cancer.... The doctor says it s probably not related to the fibroadenoma but I am very scared and stressed out.

Hi
Do not be scared.Just believe in your Doctor.Fibroadenoma in the breast is a common condition affecting many young girls. The cause is unknown, however, hormones like estrogens play a role in their development and growth.Taking oral contraceptives before age 20 also predisposes to having fibroadenoma.A fibroadenoma can be differentiated clinically from a cancer through the fact that it is very mobile and well limited unlike a cancer that is not mobile, poorly limited and can at times ulcerate. In breast cancer, axillary lymph node is what is common not a supraclavicular lymph node.Your lymph node can be explained by your respiratory infection.Just for reassurance, i will suggest you get a mammography and a biopsy for testing.
The treatment of fibroadenoma may be removal if need be or just close monitoring.Decision to remove it depends on its impact on the shape of the breast, if it causes pain, your concern about developing cancer or if you receive questionable biopsy results.
For your sore throat, it is mostly caused by viral infections and may not need any special management. However, you can take an antiinflammatory pain medication like dexamethasone, an antihistamine like aerus, nasal decongestants if obstructed, gargle with look-warm salt water many times per day and avoid cold and dust. If symptoms persist, you see your Doctor to examine your throat for a possible bacterial infection.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
