What Causes Fluctuating Blood Pressure Post A Catheterization Procedure?

I had a catheterization procedure on Wednesday. I had no blockages. My blood pressure went up to 160 during the procedure and they had to give me something to lower it. I spent Thursday and most of Friday resting, but had a big coughing fit yesterday afternoon. Today I was feeling faint and have seen that my blood pressure is going up and down. 79/51, 82/58, 90/63, 81/61, 97/61, 70/57, 107/72, 105/71, 110/76, 84/66, 98/66, 94/62. Any ideas of what is happening?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The repeated alterations in the blood pressure can be part of various issues as:
- Underlying stress and anxiety
- Conduction defects of heart or conducting system
- Valvular dysfunction
- Any metabolic issues as potassium, sodium level alterations
- Related to amount of salt intake
- Endocrine issues as thyroid disorder or others

A detailed history, physical examination and co relation of supportive data base is mandatory in this situation to proceed for further expert discussion.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
