What Causes Fluctuating Heart Rate?

My wife has been in the hospital 2 times in the past 2 and a half weeks. Both times he heart rate dropped in the middle 20s and them below. They think they have found that the top is beating faster than the bottom. Everything is showing for fast heart rate not for slower ones. At the hospital her heart rate resting is no more than 55 and doesnt get alot higher. What is that condition called.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think she is having ectopic heart beats (extrasystoles) or escaped heartbeats. Holter monitoring would help to determine the right diagnosis.

Furthermore, should run echocardiogram to evaluate the morphology of the heart and how it is working.

For the moment, keep monitoring blood pressure and heart rate and record the results for future reference.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
