What Causes Fluctuation In Liver Enzyme Levels While Suffering From Dengue Fever?

I got dengue virus and it was diagnosed on Oct 8, 2016. After a week s fever, I thought I was okay. but my liver function test shows that my ALT is normal. It has been a month now and it is still not normal. It is fluctuating. First it was 169, then 103 and then 71 and finally 81. It should be upto 42 as per doctor. Even my uric acid is raised. Please tell me how I can make them normal. Thanks.

Hi,

Raised liver enzymes and uric acid are seen in certain cases of dengue virus infection. You need to be on a bland diet for about a month which will help to restore liver function back to normal. Gradually, elevated liver enzymes will return to normal.

For raised uric acid, kindly drink good quality of water and improve your fluid intake. Also, avoid intake of alcohol (if you are habituated to) and consumption of non-vegetarian food. Gradually, uric acid also would return to normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
