What Causes Fluid In Mastoid Air Cells And Middle Ear?
My Foster daughter is 14 mos old. She had a ct scan in Feb. which showed fluid in the left mastoid air cells and middle ear. She was given antibiotics. She was treated again at the end of April for the same thing. I just received a copy of an MRI she had done 3 weeks ago that again shows opacification of the mastoid air cells and maxillary sinuses. This time bilaterally. Is it time to ask for an ENT referral?
Noted the history about your daughter having fluid in mastoid air cells and sinuses. Yes, this is the time to get the examination done by an ENT Surgeon so that the cause can be ascertained. The commonest cause is spread of infection from the nose and throat through Eustachian tubes. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Proper feeding is very important. Cold and nasal conditions be treated very practically then only the ear condition would improve. Incision and drainage of the mastoid cavity through a tympanotomy that is insertion of the tube through the tympanic membrane or ear drum can help a lot for drainage of the fluid and aeration.
