Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 20-year old son gets food stuck in his esophagus. He isn t choking and he can breath. It is like it is just sitting there. This happened when he was younger and we eventually had to go have it removed surgically after a day two because nothing could go up or down. Not even liquids. His pediatrician said he basically had a sticky esophagus. Is there any over-the-counter meds that can help with this? He took something then, but I don t remember what (its been several years).
Your son should have a gastroscopy and barium swallow test as the reason of such symptoms can be esophagus achalasia. He may also have some diverticle in the esophagus or it can be stress related. For sure he should consult gastrologist.
Hope this helps. Regards.
