Chronic dysentry persisting for many years may not be due to Amoebiasis. There are many other causes such as Crohn's disease, Coeliac disease, Ulcerative colitis. Irritable bowel syndrome and Thyrotoxicosis. Hence you may need investigations such as stool culture, Protoscopy/sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy to arrive at diagnosis. Then treatment can be done appropriately.
