What Causes Frequent Blood Filled Bowel Movements While Being Off Revlimid?
I take revlimid for multiple myeloma, I take a 10 mg pill every day for 3 weeks and then off 1 week. This is my week off. Since yesterday I have been cramping and have been using he restroom often in the same time period, starting early this afternoon the stool has turned bloody. What should my next step be. My oncologist is not in her office now.
As per my clinical experience, the Revlimid is an immune modulator which consists of Lenalidomide, from group of Thelidomide analogues. There are various number of side effects of this drug as: - Nausea, vomiting - Diarrhea - Altered liver function - Jaundice - Clay colored stool - Headache - Dizziness - Tumor cell lysis - Low cell counts - Flare up growth of tumor cells - Others
It is the low levels of platelets which gives rise to bleeding per rectum along with diarrhea. Kindly approach an ER without waiting for your oncologist till next month.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
