Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, my son has been throwing up and having diarrhea late last night and all day today. I have given him gatorade, crackers, chamomile tea and water. He is still going at it. Does this stomach virus or whatever has to take it course or shall I take him to the ER? He's 19
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Frequent diarrhea and vomiting could be due to gastroenteritis/stomach flu. It causes fluid loss and dairrhea. I would suggest to consult the primary care physician and undergo examination to assess the severity of symptoms.
Following treatment will helpful:
- Antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin - Tablet domperidone - Capsule containing probiotics like Sporolac - Give oral rehydration solution to prevent the dehydration
Avoid solid foods, give boiled rice with added salt and lemon. Give more chicken breast soups, yoghurt, curd rice, banana, applesauce and toast.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
