What Causes Gas And Bloody Mucousy Blob In Stools?

Hi I have the feeling that i need to go to the toilet for a poo and when i sit down there is a bit of flatulence and a bloody mucusy blob is released in the toilet bowl, So I have cought some on the TP to check it out and it has a terrible smell and is very slimy, what could be causing this?

Hello,

The feeling to go to the toilet and passing a bloody mucus blob and flatulence that has a terrible smell and is slimy indicates that you surely have a bacterial intestinal infection, particularly procto-colitis or a mixed infection.

Hence, I would advise you the following in such a situation:
- Please send the stool sample for tests with history.
- Tests of blood for CBC to see for raised white cell count, sugar, kidney and liver functions.
- Ultrasonography.

Clinical evaluation, examination and correlation with reports of investigations to get a proper clinical diagnosis and thus get a prescription based oral antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics. This should help you out properly and help in cure.

If there is no complete relief, then you may need further investigations; like colonoscopy and CT scan of abdomen to see for Diverticulitis, ulcers, Crohn's and so on and get treated accordingly.
