Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 14 year old has been gasping (literally to the point of lips turning blue) following a simple cough or even laughter. We have an appointment scheduled to see a pulmonolgist, but it s 2 months out. Tonight he had another spell so we took him straight to the emergency room and left being told when that happens, just breathe in ......if he could, he would. This has been going on for about 6 weeks now and seems to be becoming more frequent. I m at a loss.....
The gasping for air with mild cough would indicate underlying bronchospasm with cardiac issue as ventricular septal defect or else responsible for turning of lips blue. He needs immediate evaluation with an X-ray chest and 2 D Echo of the heart, EKG for best management guidelines.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
