What Causes Gout While Taking Benicar HCT For BP?

I am taking benacarHCT and it is controlling my blood pressure but I am incurring hypourecimia(gout) which may or may not be related to the benacar since this gout only occurred since taking the benacarHCT.Can I get benacar without the diuretic component to control my blood pressure.

I appreciate your concern for the safety of Benicar HCT.

This medication contains two drugs Olmesartan (Benicar) & Hydrochlorthiazide (HCT) which is an effective recommended combination for the high BP which is not controlled by Olmesartan alone.

It is unfortunate that you have developed gout (hyperuricemia). Hyperuricemia is an important side effect of Hydrocholorthiazide.

Benicar without HCT is also available for the control of BP.
But you have to consult your treating doctor for a possible increase in dosage of Benicar to be an effective antihypertensive (BP lowering) medication.
