You may also get a TSH test done to exclude the possibility of endocrine problems related to the thyroid. I presume that fungal infections have been ruled out by the doctor because certain fungal infections can lead to hair loss. There are also certain immunological conditions that can lead to hair loss . Occasionally a scalp biopsy may be done to find out if this hair loss is scarring type called scarring alopecia or non scarring type called non scarring alopecia. Alopecia is the medical name given for hair loss. Some of the common causes are alopecia areata, male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia, scarring alopecia etc. At the moment before too many complex investigations you may get your TSH test done along with hormonal profile. The medication you are prescribed is the standard treatment usually given. Should you require more information please post your queries here. Best regards
