I had a tonsillectomy and tubes placed in both ears on Wednesday June 1st. My blood tests revealed that I'm 0.1 out of the average spectrum for the time it takes blood to clot and had some excessive bleeding in the OR. I'm taking 5mg tablets of Oxycodone and extra strength Tylenol. Prescription for the Oxycodone is 1-4 tablets every 4 hours as needed. I'm taking 2 tablets every 4 hours with Tylenol in between.
My question is whether or not the "hairy black tongue" is normal after this procedure? What causes it and what will make it go away? I noticed my tongue was a deep purple and green yesterday and thought it was from popsicles. The colors have intensified today and I haven't had any popsicles today - just water, lukewarm tea, spaghetti o's and mashed potatoes.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain there is a possibility that due to poor maintenance of oral hygiene there is accumulation of debris and bacterial overgrowth over the tongue as well as the discoloration can also be due to certain chromogenic or color producing bacteria.. You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination and if it is black hairy tongue he can advise you to clean up your tongue using a tongue scraper, gargle with a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water in 1:1 composition, you can also dip a soft toothbrush in this solution and clean you tongue.. Maintain a good Oral hygiene.. Do warm saline gargles..
Hope this information helps..
