What Causes Hardening Around And Below Belly Button?
I am 71 year old female with hardening around and below the belly button...I had a hernia repair about 2 years ago, but just began to notice this . I would like to know what causes it or what to do about it. Thanks , my email is YYYY@YYYY .
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about a 71 years old female patient who has undergone umbilical hernia repair 2 years ago. now there is hardening around and below the belly button just now. Wants to know the causes and what can be done. The causes can be: - Recurrence of the hernia. - Peri-umbilical edema, inflammation or infection. To detect what it is we have to find the cause by: Clinical evaluation- in this we find whether there is impulse on coughing or not, whether this is reducible or not. If both the things are positive, this is a recurrence of an umbilical hernia and should be operated upon once again. IF this is not an umbilical hernia recurrence, then obvious reason is inflammation or infection; needs antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication. Surgery if there is umbilical granuloma.
