What Causes Headaches And Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

i have been having tension headaches almost daily for several months. my face and neck heat up too. yesterday i had a migraine which went a way after several doses of Advil migraine. Last night i could not lay down without getting a headache. so i had to sleep sitting up. Last night i went to the drug store and took my blood pressure and it was 178/95! Should i be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, at 178/95 mm Hg you should be worried as this much Blood pressure (BP) will cause more damage than just headaches. You need proper evaluation as ECG and chest x-ray PA view plus blood sugar level checked.

Ask your local doctor to start a suitable medicine as Telmisartan or amlodipine at start, take reading of BP after 2 weeks. If it lowers than 140/90 mm Hg, then it is alright otherwise you have to take two drugs.

You may continue migraine drug but avid Ergometrines. Besides BP drug, start morning or evening walk at moderate pace at least for 15 minutes daily. Avoid alcohol, smoking, and cut on salty fried foods.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi
