What Causes Headaches?

For the past week and a half, I have had a constant pain on the right side of my head towards the back. Everything that I have taken, from Extra-Strength Tylenol to Stanback, doesn t relieve the pain, it only numbs it to where I still know the pain is there. Just recently, I started smelling ammonia. Do you think this could be a sign of migraines or could it have to do with the fact that I am severely anemic?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

The most likely diagnosis in your case is migraine. The abnormal smell can occur in migraine, especially prior to headache episodes, called as olfactory aura. You would benefit from medicines such as rizatriptan or sumatriptan tablets to relieve the headaches.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist
