What Causes Heavy And Painful Periods?

I usually have really heavy and painful periods. I got my period on Thursday and it was really light for 3 days and then seemed to stop. On day 4 halfway through the day I started bleeding again. It has been very light and I'm on Day 6. It has changed back and forth from being very light in color to very dark randomly. I have not had any cramping which is abnormal for me. Normally I can barely get out of bed. I have had cravings late at night and hot flashes in the evening as well. I have had 2 headaches through all of this and I'm exhausted without doing anything. I did have unprotected sex 6 days before ovulation. I have been off my merina iud for almost 3 years.

I understand your concern .

Cause of heavy painful periods may be uterine fibroids/endometriosis.

As you had unprotected intercourse before ovulation,there are chances you may have got pregnant.
Bleeding now turning from light to dark can be a sign of impending miscarriage/as a complication uterine fibroid.
I recommend you to immediately visit gynaecologist for pelvic examination.
USG pelvis will confirm the pregnancy and diagnose any uterine pathology.
