What Causes Heavy And Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?
Over the last six months I have had 4 menstral cycles (#4 currently) the last three have lasted right around 28-30 days. I visited my physician and was prescribed birth control which I started 2/21, on 3/2 I began spotting. As of 3/11 my period has become so heavy I am going through a super tampon and soaking a pad in 2 hours. The cramps have become almost unbearable, and tense up my lower back. I m not sure if I should be seen (I just moved and do not have access to my physician) or if I should start the next birth control pack.
You should be seen. Physical examination as well as a pelvic ultrasound to take a look at the uterus to see if there is a structural reason for the bleeding eg fibroids, endometriosis, evidence of infection, may be needed.
The birth control may also need to be changed to one that may be more effective for you.
I hope this helps
