What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After Removal Mirena Coil?
I had my mirena coil taken out a couple of days ago and a bit of polyp was accedently removed with the coil, going to hospital in two weeks to have the rest removed, however I have been on the mini pill for four months waiting for Iud removal but have been bleeding more heavily last 24 hrs, why would this be when I m on the pill
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Mirena coil removal often causes heavy bleeding or intermittent bleeding. It is because of the excess estrogen( lack of daily dose of progesterone) & thus hormonal imbalance due to sudden removal of the coil. It gets normal in a few months. Since you have polyp, bleeding in excess can be due to it. Take iron tonic/tabs, once daily. However, visit your gynae & report if bleeding is too heavy, you need to be physically examined to avoid any emergency conditions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
