What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding In A Breast Cancer Patient?
I am 47 yo white female. Diagnosed w stage 1 breast cancer in Dec. 1012. LumpectomyX3, chemo and radiation. Periods stopped after chemo 1. Had one in August 2013 and nothing since. Until Oct 2015 when I experience heavy bleeding. A polyp was found and I had a d&c Dec. 9. A few days ago I started bleeding. Not heavy. ANy advice?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A history of chemotherapy for breast cancer and heavy bleeding post chemotherapy is alarming. There is few chemotherapeutic agents like tamoxifen which can lead to endometrial hyperplasia and thus heavy bleeding. I suggest you to consult your radiotherapist for review of chemotherapeutic agents and to assess whether heavy bleeding is due to chemotherapy or some other cause. An endometrial biopsy is also indicated to look for changes in the endometrial glands and stroma. If hyperplasia is found to be due to side of chemotherapeutic agent, then it needs to be replaced.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
