Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
After receiving a tetanus shot as a young child in the early 1950s, I ran a high fever and the pediatrician told my parents I was highly allergic to tetanus and I have never had a tetanus shot. I am worried about the potential of lockjaw. What are my options?
It is due to allergic reactions to the antigen contained in the tetanus shot.
Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself in a couple of days.
As of now, you can take acetaminophen to bring down the fever. If there is a local reaction at the injection site, you can take antihistamines like Cetirizine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
