What Causes High Fever After Stepping On A Porcupine Fish?

my father stepped on a porcupine fish quill on jan. 22 in oahu. he was treated at hospital that sunday with high fever and is taking broad spectrum antibiotics. he had a blood test done at the hospital this week and it came back negative. his doctor said he was confused and also doesn t understand why this bacterial infection has not spread to the other leg or other extremities. he also has a pacemaker and suffers from phlebitis. should we be seeking second opinions on this?
