What Causes High Fever Along With Body Aches And Lack Of Appetite?

My husband has had a high fever for 3-4 days now. It has gone down some. It s at 101.3 now. It was much higher before. His body is in a lot of pain and very sensitive to movement and touch. Everything is really hurting him. He feels burning to the touch but he is freezing. He has been in bed (very little getting up) since Tuesday night. Low appetite. He is 35 years old. Any ideas? Should he go to the ER?

Hi,

101.3F may be lower than other days but it is still considered high fever. Your husband might have got some infection in the body that can cause such fever.

You are informing that his body is burning hot (this is due to high fever he has got), but he is freezing. Having fever with chills is specific symptom of certain fevers. He might be having malaria or urinary tract infection to start with.

If there is any chance your husband may have been bitten by mosquito, chances of malaria are more, as malaria transmits through mosquito bite.

If he is having symptoms of burning sensation in urine or if he is passing blood or pus in urine, chances are that he might be suffering from urinary tract infection.

In this situation, I would advise you to go for a Complete Blood Test (CBC) with Peripheral Smear (PS) and a urine routine test.

He might have to go for antiviral or antibiotic treatment to resolve the infection and fever after the reports come. You can consult us again or go to a physician after you get the reports. He might feel temporary relief from Paracetamol 500 mg as and when fever comes.

Low appetite, body aches and not being able to get up from bed are symptoms that are associated with any type of fever. As the fever will subside, these symptoms will disappear too. I would still advise to give him plenty of water and fruit juices so that he can feel little energy and if it is urinary infection, it can help to resolve infection faster.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. Please let us know if you have any other queries. I hope your husband feels better soon.

Best regards,
Dr. Viraj Shah
