Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter of age 5.5years has fever since 4days. It started on Saturday evening with fever and also slight cough. Consulted doctor and Gave paracetamol overnight and from Sunday morning started with antibiotic (amoxycillin and potassium clavulanate) and codphos DX syrup (Dextromethorphan Hbr, Phenylephrine HCL and chlorpheniramine maleate syrup). Since fever was high (102 deg), I even wiped her body with wet cloth whenever it went high. On Monday night got the complete blood test and urine test done for typhoid and dengue. Both were negative. All other readings were Normal except for urine (pus cells 18-20cells/hpf; epithelial cells 3-4 cells/hpf and protein present in urine). It was diagnosed as urine infection and continued same antibiotic and also gave paracetamol every 4hours since Monday night till Tuesday night and stopped it as there was no fever. Tuesday overnight fever was not there till 4am. Later at around 5am she had got fever. Gave her paracetamol again and now she s sleeping. Can you please tell us what could be the possible cause for it and how to proceed?
As per the investigations, it looks like a urinary tract infection. If yes, could you please share the report. It is also possible that the organism grown in the urine culture might be resistant to amoxicillin and potassium Clavulanate. In that case, need to start your daughter on another antibiotic to which the organism is sensitive.
Yes. give her paracetamol every 6th or 8th hourly for two days, depending on the frequency of fever. Give her plenty of fluids to drink. Tender coconut water, fresh juices, water, pomegranate all are helpful. regular periodic emptying of the bladder will help. Follow good perineal hygiene.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan,
