What Causes High Fever And Leg Cramps In A 7 Year Old Boy?
My 7 yr old son had temperature of 104 four days ago since that time his temperature has been slowly going down. Yesterday he was complaining of leg cramps. Today his leg cramps are worse - i gave him gatorade and bananas and advil - he is in good spirits but his legs are so cramped he can barely walk. Tonight when I checked on him in bed he is soaked and his temperature is 96 now. Should I be worried?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of high fever and leg cramps which could be due to enteric fever or typhoid, viral infection or infectious mononucleosis.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Take Ibuprofen or Paracetamol every 4-6 hour to keep temperature under control.
- Do tepid sponging to lower down the temperature.
I suggest to consult a pediatrician as soon as possible to find out exact cause of this. You should get Routine blood tests done and start treatment accordingly. You should give anti inflammatory medication such as Levocetirizine to child.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
