What Causes High Fever Despite Taking Zofran And Motrin?

My grandson has had a high fever for 3 days (103) he went to ER yesterday and they gave him fluids and did blood work. He tested negative for flu and they are doing a test for Malaria.? He is 21 years old. Whole body hurts and can t get out of bed. He was given Zofran and Motrin. 24 hrs later still high fever.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your grandson have symptoms of high fever despite taking Zofran and Motrin which seems to be due to viral or bacterial infection. It could be due to poor and compromised immunity of body. It could be due to coinfection as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit general physician/ pediatrician once and get it examined. You should get blood tests redone and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Do tepid sponging as well to lower down fever. You should avoid giving child any outside food. Take diet rich in fresh juices and fruits. You should give your grandson complete test. Drink plenty of water and fluids. You should take anti-allergic medication along with proper course of antibiotic along with Ibuprofen. Avoid intake of outside food and excessive sharp spicy food.
