What Causes High Heart Rate While Having Muscle Tension In Back?

Hello...I am 34 years old, slightly overweight, (def out of shape...lol), but working on it. my question is: I have been experiencing a sort of muscle tension through my lower back and extending around to my abs...when it acts up my resting heart-rate can be anywhere from 100 (common) - 120 (not as often) bpm...and can stay that way for a day or two...not sure whats going on,,,normally my resting rate is somewhere in the 80's...aside from the discomfort (sort of a general tightness...hard to describe) and the higher pulse rate I don't have any other symptoms...no dizziness, or chest pain

Hello and thank you for using HCM.
I careful read your question and I will try to explain you something.
Increased heart rate might have different causes. If you have regular heart beats that exceeds 100 beat for minute we must be dealing with a simple sinus tachycardia.
Sinus tachycardia might happen for different reasons. It is quite normal during an physical effort. If a person is doing an exercise we expect that the heart rate might go up to 220 minus his age. And this is quite normal and nothing to worry about. Every physical or emotional stress might cause tachycardia. When a person experience pain, like a back pain ore tension, he might experience sinus tachycardia, and this is quite normal.
Substances containing caffeine like coca-cola, coffee and energy drinks might rise your heart frequency, so i would advise you not to use them.
If you do have high frequency during all day, than it is mandatory to exclude some pathology's like anemia, thyroid gland problems.
So, i would say that you have nothing to worry about for this sporadic heart frequencies. Only if they bother you and you catch high frequencies in most part of the day i would recommend you to meet a doctor and make a full chek up blood test for what i mention before and of course an electrocardiogram, an cardiac echo and a holter rhythm monitoring. All this to help us find a secondary couse for sinus tachycardia.
Hope I was helpful. Wish you good health.
Best regards.
