What Causes High Heart Rate?

I am a 30 year old female. I work out 5 times a week: cardio, strength and yoga. I recently went to the doctor and my heart rate was 92 bpm. I have been checking it periodically and it's always between 84 and 96. My mother told me that she has always had the same thing and her heart rate did not slow until she got older. Could it be genetic or should I be worried?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that these heart rate values are not concerning for any serious medical condition, as long as you do not feel any symptoms like palpitations or shortness of breath. They could be related to a genetic pattern too. Anyway, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests to investigate for other possible causes that may lead to this clinical situation:

-a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction
- complete blood count for anemia.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
